How to fix the leaking basin faucet and Bathtub Faucet Mixer

After years of using the faucets, leaking faucet problem might occur occasionally. Some people will prefer to spend money to ask help from plumbers. But in this article, Landonbath will state few situations, and you could review accordingly to your existing problem, and fix it by yourselves!


1. Washbasin Taps Mixer


(1) When turn off the Washbasin Taps Mixer, water still leak from the spout.

-Problem: Cartridge Broken


1. First, turn off your Water Supply Valve.

2. Use screwdriver to raise the red and blue button up. Usually, manufacturer will have decoration to cover the screw hole where the screw to tighten the handle. Use Hex Wrench to loosen the screw, and take off the handle.


3. Use wrench to loosen the cartridge cap and nut, take out the broken cartridge and replace a new cartridge.

4. Reassemble and use wrench to tighten the cap and nut. Assemble the handle back on the faucet, and use hex wrench to screw tightly.


(2)Leaking from Spout Gap

-Problem:O-ring Broken

If you find water leak from the edge of the aerator cap, the o-ring inside probably is broken.Some manufacturers will place an o-ring inside to prevent water leaking.


1. Use wrench( if you afraid to scratch the surface, you could warp with cloth) to loosen the aerator cap. It will have to work harder since some manufacturers will add anaerobic adhesive inside to make it more adhesive.


2.When take off the cap, and you will see an o-ring inside.Take out the broken o-ring and replace a new o-ring.



2.Freestanding Bathtub Faucet/ Bathtub Mixer Faucet


(1) When turn off the Bathtub Faucet Mixer, water still leak from the spout.

-Problem: Cartridge Broken- Basin Faucet


1. First, turn off your Water Supply Valve.


2. Use screwdriver to raise the red and blue button up. Usually, manufacturer will have decoration to cover the screw hole where the screw to tighten the handle. Use Hex Wrench to loosen the screw, and take off the handle.


3. Use wrench to loosen the cartridge cap and nut, take out the broken cartridge and replace a new cartridge.


4. Reassemble and use wrench to tighten the cap and nut. Assemble the handle back on the Freestanding Bathtub Faucet, and use hex wrench to screw tightly.



(2) When turn on the faucet, the water comes from both the spout and the handheld shower(if the Bathtub Mixer Faucet have 2 function)

-Problem:Broken Diverter


Attention: So far, in recent markets, some of the bathtub faucets have no Diverter for larger flow rate. They use two cartridges to individually control the water outlet from the spout and the handheld shower. Therefore, if both cartridges are turned on, water will both come from spout and the handheld shower. This situation is not relevant to any broken diverter issue.


The function of the diverter is to switch the water between spout and handheld shower.


1. Turn off the faucet and reset the diverter.


2. Rotate the diverter knob out from the Bathtub Mixer Faucet . Use wrench to loosen the nut and take out the broken diverter and replace a new diverter.


3. Reassemble the nut with wrench and lock the knob.


(3) Leaking from Spout Gap

-Problem:O-ring Broken-Basin Faucet

(4) Leaking from the shower holder

-Problem:O-ring Broken


Shower Holder also connect to the Tub Faucet with Hand Shower body, so it also contains water pressure. Usually manufacturers will place o-rings to prevent potential leaking from here. If you find drips from here, o-ring inside is broken.


1. Loosen the screw, and pull out the shower holder.


2. You will see o-rings on the connector.Take out the broken o-ring and replace new o-ring.


3. Insert the shower holder, and use screwdriver or hex wrench to tighten the screw.


(5) Leaking from bottom Water Supply.


As we know, Tub Faucet with Hand Shower are installed on the floor. So the water supply are arranged under the ground. In existing markets, there are mainly 2 installation ways.


-1- Tripod Stand

This is the most common installation way for freestanding bathtubs. It consists of tripod stand and a sets of hot and cold flexible hoses.

When the leaking occur on the floor with this installation, this is mostly happen to broken water supply, or loosen connection.

1. When leaking occur, turn off the water supply immediately.


2. Check the connection between the flexible hoses nuts and water supply. Use wrench to re-lock them firmly. And turn off the water supply if water leaking.


3. If water still leaking, turn off the water supply, disassemble the faucet, and twist the sets of flexible hoses out from the floor tube, if the o-ring on the flexible hoses are not broken-

Possibility:(1)connection attached to the faucets possibly not tighten, re-twist the flexible hoses firmly. And try it once. If the o-rings are broken, replace the new o-rings. Improper connection during the installing might cause the spare parts broken.


4. If water still leaking, the leaking problem in a great extent happen to the water supply.

Therefore, after finish the assembling, Landonbath kindly advise you to test the faucets and meantime, it also help you to test the water supply if any problem.



-2- Rough In Box


This is an advanced installation way for freestanding bathtubs. People will more prefer round in box installation with cement floor. It consists part of the rough in box and a pairs of brass tubes.

The principle is near the same as the tripod stand installation.

When the leaking occur on the floor with this installation, this is mostly happen to broken water supply, or loosen connection.

1. When leaking occur, turn off the water supply immediately.

Pull out the faucets from the rough-in box. And loosen the connectors from the floor tubes.Check if any o-ring on the connectors or brass tubes(both sides)are broken.If the o-rings are broken, replace the new o-rings. Improper connection during the installing might cause the spare parts broken.


2. If water still leaking, the leaking problem in a great extent happen to the water supply.
